Answers:
Yes, you can claim earn income credit near single 1 working. Earned income credit doesn't business if married and with the sole purpose 1 working. What matter is income smooth, and unearned income.
Sounds approaching it, base on what you said. You don't both (or either) own to work adjectives year, if explicitly your cross-question.
To qualify for EIC,
* your status cannot be Married file separately, i.e. you must record as Married Filing Jointly.
* Your Adjusted Gross Income must be smaller number than $34,001 (this is 2006 amount; 2007 boundary should be slightly more than this).
* You must be U.S. resident for unbroken year.
* Your investment income must be smaller quantity than $2,800 (this is 2006 amount).
* You must own earn income.
* The child must be your qualified child and can't be qualified child of any one else.
You've already get some really pious answers. However, you can use a tool at the IRS net site to guide you through the specifics. Here's a direct relation to 2006's tool (which should be close, 2007's program isn't on their site yet).

Yes you can as long as you come upon the income guidelines. There is no requirement that both spouses enjoy earn income, simply that at lowest one of you does.
