What can I do if an employer overstates an member of staff income on a W-2 Form?

This is the problem that is facing my wife. She works unpaid and the W-2 says she made $10,000, but acutally she individual recieved $7,000 in wages for 2007.

Now her employer which outsources W-2 printing enunciate that the company that prints the W-2's can't change the numbers. Can't they merely reprint a W-2 with the corrent amount?

Answers:    Where did your "$7,000" numeral come from. If it really is what the company paid her, they can and MUST issue a corrected W-2, even if they hold to do it by hand. However, within may be $3,000 in nondeductible benefits.

I would budge through the procedure specified by the IRS for a missing W-2, (If it's wrong and the employer admits it's wrong, it seem to qualify as "missing" to me.)
Yes, they can issue a corrected W-2. In fact, I believe there's even somewhat checkbox on the W-2 that says corrected. Check it for yourself.
