Filing toll returns surrounded by multiple (3) states?

Before we got married, my wife and I lived contained by different states (Michigan and Missouri) for more than 6 months in 2007. After conjugal, we moved to a third state (Nebraska). We have incomes within all three states and we plan on in somebody`s company filing taxes. I presume we will hold to file as part-year residents, near one being for Nebraska. But I'm confused give or take a few which of Michigan or Missouri we should apply as part-time residents for (since both of us lived by ourselves prior to marriage).

I know it might be a angelic idea to walk to a tax advisor for this, but given that we be students most of last year, our incomes be so low that it doesn't make sense to do so (not to mention the affording section of it)!

Thanks in mortgage for your advice.

Answers:    I'm not identifiable with the law of any of those states, but, if California law be applied to your situation in Michigan or Missouri, you might wallet as single rather than as married, as the other spouse have no income sourced directly or indirectly to that state.

But that doesn't answer your question. Normally, you would swarm part-year or non-resident returns for all three states, but in attendance might be some offsets if you have employment income from (say) Michigan after you moved to Nebraska, say, if you received the check after you moved. Under the circumstances, you might lately file the three independent part-year returns (including income both surrounded by the state you were living contained by when you received it and employment income in the state earned), and cut the offset provisions.
Since you be married at year end, afterwards you are considered married for the entire year. You need to report in adjectives 3 states. Each state will tax that portion that be earned surrounded by that state. That you were not married contained by MO or MI matters not... you are considered married for the year.
