Why is my employer not witholding satisfactory federal taxes? And also not paying overtime?

I basically took on a unsullied assignment and after getting my paycheck, I catch sight of 2 immensely uncharacteristic things:

1: I get compensated a gross amount of 1300 but they solely took out 7 dollars for federal toll. That's not even 1%! I put that I am married and put a 2 for my W-4. I enjoy have previous job where on earth I did the exact same file status and they took out around 15-20% respectively clear extent for federal taxes.

Is this ordinary? I asked my employer and they said explicitly a moment ago their "policy". I know that if I don't income adequate taxes for this year and when I wallet for 2007 the IRS can charge me a cost for that but how can I control what my employer deduct?
Is in attendance anyway to avoid this cost?

And here is the other uncommon entry.

I worked 44 hours one week however they aren't paying me 1.5 times my wage. They are in recent times paying me my regular wage.I thought overtime have to be salaried at tiniest 1.5 times your wage? I haven't asked my employer nonetheless almost that but if they discard to remuneration the overtime wage can I do something roughly that?

Answers:
If the $1,300 is for one week they are taking out much smaller quantity than will be required. That amount is something like right for a monthly income. Perhaps they misread the charts. As for the overtime issue that is to say a state issue but in general the requirement is to settle overtime for more than 40 hours within a week. You could report them to the state labor board.
1. If you can't go and get them to bear more than 7 dollars out for the federal taxes for 2 individuals, modify the W-4 to not anything (sorry for the mistake of truism 9, that would drop off the amount they would help yourself to, not increase it). If they don't thieve plenty out, maybe a report to the IRS that they are not withholding the proper amount of taxes would give support to.

2. Yes, you're supposed to be compensated at a rate of at smallest 1.5 times your regular wage. If they veto, report them to the State Labor Board.

Also, here's a relationship to the IRS' Federal Withholding Calculator Program. If the company can't digit out how to properly withhold taxes, this program is supposed to backing it.

Here's another article that may relief too:

As far as the withholdings, it is not up to them. If you want to see the amount that they should withhold, go to http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p15.pdf... page 37-58.

The best solution is to folder a investigational W-4 and enter the amount by which you want your withholdings increased where on earth it say "6 Additional amount, if any, you want withheld from respectively paycheck".

If that does not work, your other way out is to dispatch the IRS the money yourself during the year. Use the vouchers that come near Form 1040-ES to do this. The total of payments and withholdings must be:
By April 15, 25% of your import tax for the previous year or 22.5% of your levy for the current year
By June 15, 50% of your duty for the previous year or 45% of your tariff for the current year
By September 15, 75% of your excise for the previous year or 67.5% of your rates for the current year
By January 15, 100% of your import tax for the previous year or 90% of your levy for the current year
All deadline that leak on a holiday or a weekend are extended to the subsequent business daylight.
In extreme cases, they are extended longer (for example, the September 2001 deadline be extended because of 9/11).
Something's smelly here. Do not run contained by and adjustment your exemptions to 9! Go and claim not anything exemptions. If you are on pay, forget the overtime. They'd win that one. If not, they owe you. Are they taking .076% for SS taxes? Check on that, too. Company policy, my stout aunt's fanny!
