Is my accountant following standard business procedures?
I'm working next to an accountant for the first time this year. Last February, I brought the pertinent charge information to this bloke and moved out expecting everything would be file by April 15.
April 15 come around and he have not file. After several call which he has-been to return (his assistant assured me he be drastically busy), the assistant finally told me that he'd file an extension and would enjoy them file by August.
August have come and after several call, which he also poor to return, the assistant have told me that he will wallet by October.
I enjoy not remunerated this guy a dime. He told me that he'd bill me after he file. This also scheme that I didn't pay packet any estimated export tax (assuming near is estimated tax) beside the extensions.
I can't give a hand but meditate that I am sort of up the creek minus a propel, but I also wonder if this isn't par for the course. As I said, I've never worked near an accountant back.
So, is this adjectives business practice for accountants?
Answers:
I am a CPA/Tax Preparer, and no this is not adjectives practice for an accountant. If you brought him your complete info by February, nearby should own be no use what-so-ever that they should not own be completed by 4/15. If he did directory an extension for you (which I would ask for proof from him since he does not come across amazingly reliable at all) the extension would be valid till October 15, but with the sole purpose if you don't owe. Hopefully he enter your info into his excise software system and found that you don't owe, but will be owed a return. I would contact his assistant and provide him a deadline to report your taxes by, otherwise you will ask for adjectives your papers put a bet on and find another accountant, and if nearby is any penalty or interest that you owe from file and paying postponed, that you will consider him responsible for re-imbursing you for them. You can also report him to his state CPA society if he is one, and preparers resembling him administer the rest of us a impossible given name, and a black eye. Trust me, most of us are far from him. Our bureau give a deadline of around March 31 or so for nation to procure their charge info in, to unite the 4/15 file deadline.
No, its not usual. I would send for and set an appointment to see him.
If you don't owe any taxes, consequently its no big contract. But if you owe money, and you are penalize for mortal behind time, I'd be upset.
NO go and get a unusual accoutant but form sure he pays adjectives belatedly fees charged by the IRS...
