hi here,

If you be to travel to the States and buy the laptop nearby and bring it home near you, you would not own to wages a entity, since you could argue that you already have it in the past you disappeared.

If you are thinking of buying it online (e.g. ebay), consequently at hand are oodles option available to you. As an ebayer myself have bought stuff from the States, I know that if the wholesaler is ready to put a $45 convenience on the customs' testimony, next the item is USUALLY not liable for VAT or any other toll.

In optional extra, sometimes mark the item shipped as a GIFT also have like effect. But, be aware that both methods do not guarantee you duty amnesty. These are lately tried methods that own worked within the recent past.

Having have a express look at HMRC's website, I can see that laptops are free of standard duty rate, but are liable to standard VAT at 17.5%. Here's the relation FYI:

I hope this be of some back
No VAT is charged in the US, and since I don't know what country you are in, I can't put in the picture you if at hand would be any VAT issues for you surrounded by your country.
