Tax on raffle prizes?
Somebody is raffling a house in my nouns, the raffle costs $100. The house is said to be worth $300,000. So if I won the house, I would have to money ~$150,000 in taxes on the house.
My interrogate is that if I was to win this house and afterwards resold it for $300,000, what would i have to repay taxes on? Would I have to money taxes on the money earned from selling the house?
Answers: If you win house valued at $300,000 and the ticket cost you $100, consequently you'd have to retribution taxes on the difference, $299,900. Then if you resold the house for $300,000 you would not have to pay packet taxes on that, since you are selling it for your cost basis on the house (which would be the $300,000 that you be taxed on). If you sold it for more than $300,000, later you would have to discharge taxes on the amount above your $300,000 cost.
Now if you sold the house within 1 year of conquering it, your gain would be short-term gain, and would be taxed at your export tax rate. If you held the house for more than 1 year, your gain would be long-term, and taxed at a maximum rate of 15%. If you lived surrounded by the house for 2 years before selling it, you could shelter gain on the house up to $250,000 if single (which would mean a selling price on the house of $550,000).
The structure must withhold taxes on cash prizes. If it is a non lolly prize then YOU must reimburse the organization 25% of the advantage of the prize minus the $100 ticket you bought so the organization can wages the taxes on it. Then at tax time the company will send you a w2g showing how much you won and the taxes salaried.
