IT sale: Best bearing to grasp around "no soliciting" signs?

My friends and I a short time ago started an IT consulting firm, and I'm trying to verbs business in the local nouns for our first clients. A lot of the businesses in the nouns (surfer/college/entrepreneuria... region) hold "no soliciting" signs. How would you recommend I proceed to draw from things going? Plain weak network through friends, etc... or knock on the door (seems intrusive and weird)?
