Is a small business owner's accountant supposed to check an member of staff's reference?

I only started working as an department coordinator for a small, home-based business. My employer also purely hired an accountant who comes contained by a few times a week to give support to him near his books. He emailed me today asking for adjectives of my contact info and reference from the job on my resume. Is he, as the accountant, supposed to be looking at my resume and asking for/checking reference? Isn't it supposed to be my employer? Could it be that he know that I'm also finishing my accounting amount and is looking for some 'dirt' to bring me within trouble?

Answers:
Probably should ask the boss if he authorized the accountant to look into your reference.
The boss might own ask the accountant to do this, but better to check beside him (boss) first.
Did you claim you have finished your accounting point?
