I am looking into becoming a freelance proofreader. What should I charge?

I don't have any remunerated experience in this pasture but I want to give it a try. I'd see I'd be charging a certain amount per infallible number of words: but how much for how much?


Answers:    Work out how much text you other can correct in an hour - and use this to work out your hourly rate. It is a skill - so charge for it. Get an idea of skilled book-keeping or comprarable rates (see if there is a commercial proof reading outfit you can attain some quotes for - inquire at publishing houses if you can't find anything in pallid pages) and add a bit for your overheads if you are doing it at home - and anything else such as postage and packing.
