It depends on fairly how you define "online business", but as you would expect it is. Say you make teapots, and use the internet to souk your goods and vend them, you could easily pull off this without an online database (obviously a ably run business would have offline databases though). In notion the business would be improved by online databases for things approaching realtime stock availability, but from some operations its unworkable or strictly necessry.
yes there are ton of ways to souk online, however if you have targeted database you can rescue lot of money & effort marketing.
