How should I run roughly starting my home retail (collectibles: trading cards) business?

I'm only going to hold around $1000 to try and get some humane of ball rolling. I be thinking about buying a couple cases of Magic: The Gathering trading card booster pack and selling them in an ebay store or something for a bit smaller number than the suggested retail price. How can I expect to make any money, though, if others are selling the exact same for even LESS than I BOUGHT the pack for? How long should I expect it to take to supply ~500 booster packs at ~$3.79 a piece surrounded by an ebay store or other business medium? I really don't own too much of an idea as to what I'm doing or what I should do.

My friend and I are respectively putting in around $500. I know its possible to expand our initial investment over who know how long and by selling who knows what. What I'd really similar to to know is how to go in the region of doing this whole entity. I'm trying to find out what I should do to minimize the time it would take to brand any profit, having merely $1000 to start.

Answers:    Even though it may not feel close to you have an hypothesis of what you're doing, you've got a really well-mannered start:
*you have a business hypothesis that has proven successful
*you own funding
*you have a partner
*you've found and elected a sales venue
*you're clued-up about buyer constraint and pricing for your product
*you've checked out your competition

Since you've uncovered that your competition is underselling your purchase price, you can compete with them within other areas. Many buyers are looking for the cheapest deal, but plentiful others are looking for the best value for their money. They'll spend a few dollars more if they imagine it's worth it, like:

Service--promise (and deliver!) quicker time-to-ship, better shipping lingo and as many option as you can manage
Rare items--If you two own a few stellar cards to contribute to the business, it would get your ebay store notice.
Treats--Is there an inexpensive but relevant item you can include within every shipment?
Unique bonuses--If you two like to write, you could collaborate and construct a little booklet give or take a few game skills/tactics/strategies that you could include near each directive.
Upsells--maybe sell card cases or other trimmings that can be purchased and added to the order next to little or no extra shipping.
Great sales page--a verbs and stylish page design, with plenty of ordered information on the product, clear photos, and perfect spelling and sentence structure.

Whatever you choose to do, make the one item that's really special, that no one (or almost no one) is doing, a member of your title, so it's out there contained by front for the shoppers.

These are a few ideas that could put you at the director of the pack (no pun intended!), but you know your market far better than I do. Try looking rear legs through your competition's auctions as if you were a shopper. What would preserve you from buying from them? Ugly site? Expensive shipping? Whatever turns you off, be sure to do better beside your own sales.
