We own rats/mice within the attic of our rental home. Landlord say everyone have this. What can we do?
There are no rodents in the home, but they live our attic and keep us up at darkness. We've asked our landlord to help digit out why they're here (I've found numerous rodent inspection forms in her garage, so it's happened back we moved in). She said that if I wanted to complain about something so stupid, that she'd enjoy us out of here soon. We've paid the rent on time for 3 years and haven't cause her any problems, we fix any issues with the home (not charging her for basic upkeep) and she's not predisposed to do anything about this. Short of paying for her home to be rid of rodents, what can we do?
Answers: OMG. "Everyone" does not have rodents! I would be completely freaked.
Throw some bait up contained by the attic to eliminate the present population and figure out why they are within our attic. There is probably a fruit tree of some sort growing over your roof. Cut it back from the roof and see if you can find the entrance holes while you are up there. While the holes are tiny the feces on the roof should lend a hand you find it. If it is hard to close you can get this spray foam at the hardware store to close the holes. I spray this around pipes to trademark the holes completely.
You should be able to do all of this for lower than 10 bucks.
D-Con is cheap & very effective. ($12-13 for a 4 pack) It is a poison which make them very thirsty & in notion, once they eat it, they go outside to find a hose source & soon expire. Depending on the population get 3 or 4 of them & place them all surrounded by the attic. Check them monthly to make sure they don't run out. When they do, buy new ones.
Make sure if you enjoy small children or pets, they can't access that area once the bait stations are out.
I think by decree, she has to get them out of nearby. It's a health issue. Tell her you're going to report her. She can't kick you out for that. I am sure the innkeeper has to pay for this however cost of Baits from supermarket are severely cheap and easy to put in your roof why keep on.
You didn't say what state you live in, but contained by most, the landlady has to keep the home within "habitable" condition, which means free of vermin.
It is your landlady's responsibility to own the rodents removed. Check your state laws, but in most you can repair and take off.
Give her 30 days notice that you are going to have a pest removal company come and cart care of it, and will deduct the cost of the service from your subsequent month's rent. If she does nothing, you would (again, depending on state law) be within your permitted rights to take care of it yourself.
You might even include some citation to reporting it to the Health Department.
And again, state law determining this, it would be illegal for her to pocket any retaliatory action against you for doing this, especially since she obviously know about the problem even before you moved surrounded by.
You might check the wording of your rental agreement; it probably has wording referring to her guaranteeing the place is "habitable."

I would personally move if i were you but since you know that *** is going to preserve your deposit no matter what, i suggest find a place to move, but stay in your house until he go through the whole eviction process. Then on the 4th day (the year before the sherrif comes to make you leave) Move out that morning and say "I bet you wish you would've compensated 50 bucks to have the exterminator come out now"
If he tries to sue you, be sure to mention to the judge that you be just waiting for him to clean up the rat problem until that time you paid, but had every intention of paying him, but since he never fixed it, he never get paid.
