As for the scrolling down module, well, if you use Myspace you will be used to scrolling down, and scrolling, down, and scrolling down.forever. Maybe it's a good model to check out the site of a major competitor & mimic their site in layout. If they are successful afterwards that's who you want to copy.
No chat room are you looking to run a forum or make money selling fashion? I similar to the layout but I'm not sure what type of clientele you are going after. The baby with the cross bones be a turnoff for me. But I am a parent, maybe this is a new trend next to the younger crowd?
