Becoming a gathering planner?

How can I become a party planner? I really enjoy planning party and I am trying to find ways where I can just form extra money for now, and maybe craft it a career later.

My husband have taken business classes, so he can help me in that department, but how do I dance about advertizing myself and getting my name out at hand?

Should I post myself on craigslist first and do it really cheap at first to build a portfolio and then start to charge more? Also, does this mean I inevitability to cater, or can I advertize myself as strictly the planner and that's it?

I specialize in planning birthday parties and showers, but how can I expand myself into other types of party?
