Question on deposit for rental house - Texas?

I put a deposit down on a rental house in Texas but did not sign a lease. The owner fixed 10 days prior to move contained by that the house be no longer available for rental. Owner promised to return the deposit but have not done so. The owner after moved out of state suddenly and have stopped returning phone call.

I assume I am entitled to the deposit even though no lease be signed. Is that the bag, and if so what steps should I bring?

This is going to be tough. first you will obligation to track down the owner of the property. You will enjoy to run him/her to small claims court to attain the return of your money.

Hopefully you own a receiving or canceled check showing the amount of money that be given to him. short any of those, since you hold no lease signed, it will be your word against theirs.
