Can I afford to live in California?
I currently live in Rhode Island but I am moving to California in three months. I get hired for a career surrounded by Santa Monica that pays $100,000 a year and my husband be hired for a situation surrounded by Long Beach that pays $75,000. That’s a total household income of $175,000. Can I really afford a home on this. I only just sold my home contained by Rhode Island for $230,000 and I made $53,580 after paying the realtor. Where is a devout place to live that we can afford, however still go and get to work. I don’t mind a long drive, lately not too long. I currently travel to Boston for work, which take in the region of an hour. I would similar to to own a house, not a condo. I hold two sons and would requirement a 3+ bedroom home. I’m a moment ago a short time worried how we can afford to live in attendance. I’m flying out on Monday to find a house, but I’ve be looking on the internet and checked out the San Fernando Valley, Long Beach, and Northern Orange County. All I see is homes that are similar to $625,000 to $950,000. Is this viable? Can I really afford California?

I lived surrounded by Los Angeles for over 3 years and base on the income smooth you and your spouse posess, it can surface. You as you would expect would not know how to afford a home contained by Santa Monica but possibly Long seaside. Despite what masses may assume in the region of Long seaside (yes it have its ghetto areas) but near are some middle class areas which may fit your budget. If you are looking in the Valley, I would suggest places approaching Pacoima, in attendance are lots of family surrounded by that nouns and you would be capable of land a 3 bedroom home for give or take a few 400-500K. I would also suggest places approaching Silver Lake, areas around Hoover, Sunset and Silver Lake BLVD. Though these places are not the ritziest, if you are looking for a HOUSE they are your best bet. Bottom flash, these areas mentioned above are in commuting distances for you and your husband and they are in clothed neighborhoods near several family. If you are looking for a dignified exquisite home approaching your later home within Rhode Island, LA is not the place to be. I want it be! Good luck :)
Those prices are definite. You are moving to one of the most expensive places in America, except the world.
I wouldn't focus on owning a house right away.
Renting is much cheaper than owning. Better to get hold of near first and look.
I own to second Scott's belief. I go to academy outside of San Diego (Carlsbad) and get a opportunity submit outside of Stanford when I graduated-- I in reality turned it down due to the cost of living and chose Seattle instead. I would look at renting instead of buying as powerfully and run from in attendance. I know renting isn't your first choice, but the prices you're finding are actual, and you'll find what you would classify as a "shack" for $250,000-$300,000 because the parkland worth is so big.
Congrats on your unusual livelihood, though. I'm sure everything will come together for you.
