Negative items on your credit report will hide you for 7 years, but a Bankruptcy will haunt you for 10yrs, but you can re-establish in 1 year. The switch is to exclude some of your credit reporting items that you can handle, and when the Bk discharges you will have re-established.
As far as income, you should look into going to college. Pell Grants are based off of income and requirement. You may be able to go to arts school and get left over money from Pell Grants to subsidize your income. Once you grasp some schooling behind you, then you can put in that to your resume and then find better employment opportunities. That's what I did and I am a single parent of two boys. Now two years subsequent I am at $18 per hour. If you go to school, shift for something in demand. Finance is huge, and so is Nursing.
