Checking Account Question About Date Checks Post To Your Account?

Okay, first of all let me say-so that I know I should have enough funds to clear my depiction on every transaction. I understand that. Here's the situation. I get compensated through direct deposit every Friday. This usually occurs around 2:00 am Friday morning. I wrote out a check that as of Thursday at 6:00 pm did not show on my account. So, knowing that my check would be depositied Friday morning (technically 8 hours away), I established to get a jump on my weekend shopping. Nothing exciting, grocery store, post organization, etc...Thursday night at midnight I checked my balance and stir at an atm. The check is still not posted to my account. Friday morning, when I check my account at 8:30 am. They posted the check as cleared on Thursday cause all the transactions on Thursday to overdraw my account and charge me overdraft fees. My paycheck did deposit on Friday morning freshly like it has every week for years and years. Can they do that?
