Regarding cashing a check?

My friend wanted to lolly a check at, let's say Bank 123. However, my friend owed Bank 123 some money. In this luggage, if my friend took the check and walked into Bank 123, will they dosh it for him? Will they find out that my friend owe the Bank money?
