Are contributions to 401k prorated from the time you start work?
I enjoy two question more or less my employer retirement 401k contributions.
1. The maximum I can put surrounded by is $15,500 for 2007. But I started within mid year. Is it prorated from the time I started? Example: I started on July 1, is the contribution $15,500/2 = $7,750.
2. My employer congruent is 2:1 up to a maximum of 6% of stipend. Example: $50,000 annual gross, employer contribution is $3,000. For every dollar I put contained by, they will put surrounded by $0.50. Is the employer harmonizing of $3,000 included in the $15,500 which resources the hand total amount invested is $12,500, or, is it $15,500 from hand plus $3,000 from employer which would equal $18,500. I ponder it's the former but newly want to check.
Thanks.
Answers:
part1) No it is not prorated. The annual restrain remains 15,500. The solely restriction is how much can you aford to put surrounded by per week. Also, the plan desires to be a qualified' plan. To do that your company must declare a ratio of contributions between 'notably compensated human resources' and adjectives other workers. This MAY result contained by a maximum percentage that yur employer allows you to contribute respectively week, and that maximum percentage MAY prevent you from maxing out.
If you are over 50 you are allowed an extra separate 5000 'confine up' contribution.
Part 2) No, the employer portion does not count toward your maximum. You can contribute 15,500 and your employer an extra amount.
An hand can contribute a maximum of $15,500 per calander year to their 401k...it is not prorated if you be to start a opening surrounded by the middle of the year...however if you contributed to a 401k this year (not this distinctive companies 401k, let read aloud you contributed to your former employer's 401k) that would be included in that $15,500 numeral.
No, your employer meeting does not count towards that $15,500...they are free to contribute what they want and it will not affect you at adjectives.
1) no and if you are over 50 you can tag on an second 5k higher than the 15K
2) no it is contained by two separate accounts
