Collection agency junk mail?
Ive been getting letters from collection agencies from a bill i grain is unjust. I heard theres a opening to fight it and its pretty simple. "something like only return the letter stating this isn't you. Soon they'll get tired and stop"? is this true. Or what can you do ? Anyone own any tips or hints?
Answers: U R given 30 days to respond. Respond.. this is the 1st step. Keep at it & don't let up. Contact your state so you can contact the proper agency to report them. Call your better business bureau, they can give you lead & some advice. Do not turn belly-up but continue to face-off for your rights. I did this & they dropped it. But when all is said & done be sure to check your credit report so we can make absolute that they didn't make you pay by getting to your report! Contact a consumer rights demonstrator through your state. Good luck!
You didn't give enough info for anyone to really answer this question objectively. If the bill is in your name & it's gone over to a collection agency, after by all rights, you owe the bill unless you can prove that you don't owe it. If the bill was undue to begin with, as you claim, later you should've taken it up with the original creditor instead of letting it run to collections.
Whoever gave you that advice of sending wager on the letter saying it wasn't you is not giving you perfect advice. No, they will not get tired & stop. They can even run you to court & get your wages garnished.
Best tip: Make expenditure arrangements & pay the bill that you owe. If it was truly not your bill, it would've be settled already. If there was an error beside the bill, it would've been remedied by now. Stop making excuses & salary the bill.
If you feel the bill is unjust, lug it up with the company who has charges you. The collections agency have every right to send you letters, you can of course say that it is not you, then they will call upon to verify your address.
Like it or not, they are going to call you, or mail you information until the bill is resolved.
I'm assuming the bill is yours and returning the memorandum stating it isn't you won't stop them. Call there 800# and try to resolve it. If you owe them $$, tell them you want this resolved and try to find a settlement. If you don't do anything, it will report you negative on your credit bureau report. If it's a credit card purchase, dispute it with your credit card. You really didn't speak what kind of bill. No, its really not that simple. Especially if they have your social payment number, it can and will show up on your credit. The best thing to do is to contact the agencies and let them know that you are inept to pay your debt, and explain to them why you think that the bill is unmerited. More than likely, you are going to have to repay it for the sake of your credit.
Don't say its not you unless its really not. If you disagree with the bill, next write them and tell them you disagree, not that its for someone else Talk to the company and try to settle, they probablly will.
Is it worth ruining your credit? Probablly not...
