Does EBITDA solely include foremost business profit, or it includes profits from other business operations(like minor investment)?
I recurrently see telecom companies use this background surrounded by their financial report, but seldomly see it's used in other industries. Why is that? Is it acknowledged single surrounded by telecom industry?
Thnx.
Answers:
No - EBITDA is a celebrated numeral surrounded by adjectives industries. Most companies do not report EBITDA in their financial statements, but it can be glibly calculated.
In bag you didn't know this already, EBITDA = Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization.
So EBITDA = Net income+Interest expense+tax expense+depreciation expense+amortization expense. (you may hold to obtain depreciation and amortization from the statement of brass flows)
As far as minority investments are concerned, if the company have more than 50% ownership contained by a business, the results are included in the companies consolidated financials.
EBITDA or EBIT is typically perfered by analysts as anyone more representitive of the companies operation, and is better for forecasting and valuation perposes.
I'm not 100% sure, but here's what I deduce. EBITDA is found on the Earnings Statement. Also found on the Earnings Statement are:
Non-controlling Interest in returns of subsidiaries
Equity Income - affiliated company
Income from Investments
So EBITDA looks approaching it is adjectives profits from both the largest company and any subsidiaries or minor holdings in other companies. I don't see anywhere that you are subtracting these from the leading proceeds.
