Yahoo! Finance have a great site for looking up financial information. Personally, I use the Wall Street Journal, but that costs money whereas Yahoo! Finance does not.

Reading stock information isn't ever so difficult if you can get hold of departed the initial shock of the information. Each stock have a price. That price is how much money it costs to buy one share of that company. If you buy more than one share, later the cost is the amount shares times the stock price.

Once you own stock, the good point of that stock can stir up or down. If the stock go up $1.00 (I'm surrounded by the USA) later you hold made $1.00 per share that you own. If you owned 10 shares and the stock price go up $1.00, consequently you made $10.00.

One point to hold on to within mind is stocks are usually for long occupancy. People who trade stocks day after day can lose their shirts overnight whereas long-haulers don't necessarily be aware of the flea market swings as weighty because they know they are not pulling their money out for years. Also, you collect on commission expenses.

Hope this help a moment or two.
