Can you use a stamp as currency?
Something I hear on The Office a while rear legs, is it true and if so how much is a stamp worth?
Answers:
You could, for give or take a few 30 days surrounded by 1862. But today, no. I tried to 'change surrounded by' some outdated stamps that I have at the post department, but they told me, no refund... I terminated up buying more small stamps so I could distribute out correspondence beside the aged ones.

The Postage Stamp Currency - Its Redemption
Notice.
Post Office, New York, Dec 15, 1862
From and including this date postage stamps which own be used for currency will be received at this organization for redemption upon the following jargon and conditions, viz:-
1. - Only such as own be used for currency will be redeem.
2. - Amounts underneath five dollars will be redeem upon presentation.
3. - Amounts of five dollars and upwards must be within a single box, closely and carefully put up, near the amount roofed, and the given name and residence or place of business of the owner plainly endorsed thereon.
4. - A getting will be given for respectively packet, numbered contained by the charge of its reception.
5. - The stamps will, in need obstruction, be fussily examined and counted in the charge surrounded by which the packages are received. Those of the matured issue, and those which hold be once used for the prepayment of postage, if any, (which reality will be determined by this department), will be deduct from the amount of the box and destroyed. You can use anything that someone will adopt as effectiveness. Barter is not risky. And stamps are worth their frontage merit or anything someone will donate you for them.
I enjoy done it as a service to customers, both buying and selling, but it is more of a hassle than honourable business.
Stamps used in that whim are usually heavily discounted and are worth smaller quantity than their obverse plus.
