Who owns the stock exchange?

We hear that lots of money is made and lost on the stock exchange. Who in truth owns the London stock exchange and do they run money for every public sale?

I don't know just about the London Stock Exchange, but the NYSE is owned by a publicly traded company that you can buy shares of on the NYSE.
Its shareholders own it.

The Stock Exchange exists to allow you to buy & put on the market shares ... lately close to Race Courses exist to allow you to place bets ..
