Calculating inflation - does anybody know how to work out how much lb1000 within 1978 is worth immediately contained by the UK?
I'm asking because I lent this sum to a relative in 1978 and near's a karma I could in a minute acquire it rear. Maybe.

around lb3,500 by inflation.

I enjoy 'lent' out money to relatives , not knowing if I would go and get it final, but they be contained by trouble, if it be going to lead to me any tangible hard times, I couldn't own done it within the first place.
If after a year or so I have an incling they could repay it I would conceivably endow with a lenient reminder.
If after almost 30 years some one said "Heres that thousand pounds I owe you"!! The concluding entry I would influence is "Hang on a minute, due to inflation, that should in a minute be give or take a few lb4k"!!

how are population doing calculation here? i thought it would be 1.03 to the power of 30 (for 30 years, and taking inflation to be around 3% per annum) multiplied by lb1000. This give me just about lb2,400.
Somebody suggested that it could be wanton to ask for inflation aswell - I don't chew over it is as it is like mad of money - by lend that lb1,000 you lost 30 years of yield whereas the character who borrowed it gain 30 years of proceeds.
