Do hedge fund managers such as Ed Lampert or George Soros own their stockbroker's license? If so, do they purchase their own shares or do they do it through another broker?
Answers: I am not sure about the 2 you have mentioned but I am sure institutional traders step through big brokerage houses such as t. rowe price, fidelity, morgan stanley, etc...hedging usually involves the movement of tens of millions or even billions of dollars worth of securities at a time...remember if you want to sell, there must be a buyer which is what these brokerage houses do...if your asking if they move about through scottrade and move money on their own online account i would have to influence hell no...
I don't know whether these two have their own licenses, but purchases would be taken trouble of "in house" to keep expenses down. A buck is a buck is a buck.
