I've hear that high-dividend funds are accurate retirement investments. Do they enjoy any downsides?

I'd second snwbm's answer.

The biggest downside is investors themselves - not have the restraint to stick next to the fund through ups and downs, buying and selling at the wrong time, chasing the most modern hot fund, listen to the up-to-the-minute adviser, etc.
They can dance down surrounded by convenience similar to any other stock fund. Go next to a importantly reputable company beside low fees similar to Vanguard or Fidelity.
Asking for investment insist on from strangers whose testimonial and motives can't be checked is approaching buying a "high-dividend" fund and thinking it's conservative.

High Dividend Funds for bonds are bonds from companies that are not credit worthy to catch lower rates. High dividend stocks are trounced down stocks (in the market) that may enjoy a thoroughly devout common sense for going down. thus losing advantage.

Don't help yourself to investment advocate from strangers, TV, Radio and especially AddQA.com.

Having said that. my 2 cents is;
Learning just about "asset allocation".
Check out "Life Style Funds" from companies close to T. Rowe Price, Vanguard and Fidelity.

Ultimately you are responsible for the nouns of your portfolio. Knowledge will help out hang on to you away from some intensely terrifying suggestions of others.
High dividend funds can enjoy assets allocated surrounded by potentially volatile areas REITS, Shipping, Financial. I would consider buying past the worst boring dividend paying companies JNJ, BAC, ITW PCG, MDT, TPP, RSG for example a bit than a fund. ITW and JNJ hold both raise their dividends respectively Q for days gone by 30 years.

Good luck

the funds will commonly enjoy a price expense ratio which will drag down your return
