The American stock market are in general expand from 9:30 am to 4:00pm Eastern Standard Time on ordinary business days.

Note: as pink as these instances are, here are a couple of situations where on earth the US market close ahead of time than 4:00pm.
For example, July 4th (Independence Day) fell on a Wednesday this year and as a result, the trading day on July 3rd closed 3 hours faster than typical (at 1:00 pm) surrounded by anticipation of the following holiday.
