Well, you can't. Even contained by states resembling Texas, where on earth you do not officially own to transport Workers Compensation coverage, it does NOT attain you sour the hook for paying BENEFITS, including lost wages and medical payments.
If your subcontractor/independent contractor, doesn`t matter what, carry no workers compensation, and they're injured while working for YOU, consequently YOU are on the hook for the benefits, regardless of whether or not you've purchased any coverage.
The ONLY approach you're risk-free, is if they are a TRUE contractor - which way they can sub out the work to someone else, AND they've provided you next to proof that they enjoy coverage, through a qualification of insurance.

Every employer have to rate into workman's comp. You can't win out of it because it is required by statute for every member of staff you hold.
