Answers:
Likely, they're a scam. REAL insurance companies don't solicit via fax.
You can check two places - www.ambest.com, which rates insurance companies. If they aren't programmed in attendance, they aren't an insurance company. And your state insurance department website - if they aren't tabled THERE, they aren't licensed to vend insurance in your state.
You can other check beside your local BBB if in attendance are any complaints, but the other two will report to you if they are LEGIT or not.
This is the site to step to.

I've intellectual that one of the question you can ask an insurance company that desires you to work for them is this: "How much is your top producer making?" Then you can follow up near, "How much business does he/she do to manufacture this sort of income?" I'm not sure of any agency or entity that you can name, but I'm sure if you ask them the types of insurance they've put on the market, how long they've be contained by business, and try to set up an interview, you will probably know how to report whether or not they're the "existing McCoy".
