I'm not sure just about Safeway specifically, but when I be younger, I worked for a grocery store that be fragment of a association, and my coalition dues be taken directly out of my paycheck. They be classifed as Union Dues (not employment insurance). Though I be asked when I aligned if I needed to be part of the pack of the league. I'm not sure what would own happen if I have said no.
