Just who are the primary share-holders of the New York Federal Reserve?
Answers: There is no easy route to look it up but you can probably figure it out.
By canon, member bank have to buy shares contained by proportion to their assets. So find the biggest banks surrounded by that district and you'll have your biggest shareholders. My guess is that JP Morgan Chase would be the biggest.
Still, share ownership surrounded by a Federal Reserve branch is not quite impossible to tell apart as a nornal corporation.
A) Dividends are limited to a standard 6%
B) The shares cannot be used as collateral surrounded by any transaction
C) They cannot be sold on the open open market
D) The value of the shares never silver
E) Regardless of the # of shares owned or size of a bank, respectively member wall gets one vote.
Re: Foreign ownership - By decree, only domestic bank can be FR member bank and therefore FRB shareholders.
However, foreign entities can own a minority share within a member sandbank. For instance, Barclays (a bank surrounded by England) owns about 5% of JP Morgan Chase.
this is a issue of definition since the profits/losses of the New york Federal Reserve are consolidated with indistinguishable for the entire Federal Reserve. In that restricted sense, the Federal Reserve system is the sole shareholder of the New York Fed and the US Treasury is the beneficial owner of the total Federal Reserve system.
