Is this a desperate profession choice?
I'm currently unemployed, having just this minute quit a dead-end job that I HATE.
My sister and I have be discussing moving to New York City. She's more successful than I am, as in, she's the one with the degree and whatnot. I think she's willing to agree to me be her "hanger on" as I try to get my novels published (yes, I'm a writer), but I want to form a supplemental income on the side.
I was thinking of taking a dog-walking, pet-sitting, or nanny job on the side as I pray that my novel and plays work out. Is this a bad idea? There are plenty of race who live the rebel life of an artist, right? Is this a desperate idea?
Answers: its only a desperate idea if you are uncomfortable next to the lifestyle. I personally don't think its a impossible idea to follow any dream that holds monumental value surrounded by your life. The lifestyle change is the simply thing you have to be ready to accept because you will not live comfortably until you reach your desire and its sad to say but sometimes relations don't reach their goals and thats a possibilty to keep hold of in mind as well, otherwise progress for it.
why not try getting a job where you can hold on to growing as a writer? maybe become a freelance contributor to a local magazine? or try temping in publishing houses to see how the industry works. its a city that thrives on competition and your best bet is to acquire as much experience as you possibly can. you might be the next bestseller but its really all going on for 'time & chance.' so up your chances by getting into the industry as soon as possible. Ya, I would articulate that you are a rebel without a plan.
NYC will guzzle you up, and spit you out,as soon as look at you, so if you really MUST be a writer[and I don't see any evidence of that], then go, and honest luck to you.
