How do I break into a HR post contained by Corporate America as a recent rollege graduate?

I am graduating Summa *** Laude from my University in a couple of weeks next to a degree in English Literature and Criticism. I am currently on the profession hunt, and I've noticed that there aren't copious entry level Human Resources positions.

I believe that my skill set and personality strengths both qualify me to be excellent surrounded by HR, but I am unsure about how to apply. Should I send a resume to HR near a cover letter expressing my interest in HR; or should I turn for an entry level job elsewhere contained by the company, then try to break into HR when I have more experience? I'm looking specifically at working within the Insurance industry in the greater Hartford, CT area.

Any counsel from HR professionals, recent graduates who have job already, or those who have corporate job query experience would be welcome! Thank you in finance.
