Career related relocation expenses minus $$$ Any solutions?

My job search is forcing me to increase my scrabble radius across cities/states.
Any strategies when confronted with the "job must be packed in x weeks" and you have to relocate yourself quiz? I'm a trained Network Engineer in Riverside, Calif but have to do blue collar for bills currently. Current dilemma is moving from Riverside Calif. to San Luis Obispo Calif(about 250 miles).
Career erudite, time isn't on my side and I'm even contemplating just ironing out in my saloon a couple of weeks to get some deposit on a housing unit and move my stuff when I achieve some more money.
Any ideas?

Answers:    try for a signing bonus which you can use any way you want. otherwise moving 250 miles is not a huge expense contained by the long run especially if you are renting currently and plan to rent initially in your new location. i would treat it as a rates deduction if you can't get compensated
