It vary from state to state.
In New York, a 14 year ancient can achieve a undertaking (nothing fancy) beside working papers.
here in illinois it's 16 but it could be 15 if you get hold of a workers charter
Federal law-16
Every state will be at variance and it will depend on the Job. In Utah its 14. You can work up to 18 hours a week (during school) in non hazardous job. You cant work more afterwards 3 hours per sunshine on a institution year. Up to 8 hours a sunshine non college day

During the summer you can work up to 40 hours a week, but its forbidden to work overtime. At age 16 you can work none hazardous job, and work full time. This follows the Federal Law.

As I said this is Utah canon (which follows word for word the federal law), but it follows most of the states. Good Luck.
