Tuition reimbursement ?
Hi, I work for a small business company.
I am going rear to institution this year - I will be a Student-at-Large this semester (meaning I am not seeking degree). I am taking Fiction writing Class.
Now, I am thinking to approach my boss - and ask if he would reimburse my tuition.
What are the broad rules / requirements / law on that? (if at hand are any).
Is Educational Assistance govern by nay employment laws/ regulations?
p.s. my co-worker, who is pursuing a MBA have her tuition reimbursed. but because we're so small and lax around here, she never get any Written Agreement next to the employer. -- I do not want to follow into those steps.
What do I do?
What question should I ask? What should I agree to?
Do I even qualify ( self an "irregular student" enrol surrounded by a Fiction Writing Class)?!
Please, Help!
Thank you.

I do not reflect on that near are any law concerning tuition reimbursement, but I would suppose that your employer have some common rules roughly speaking it.
Generally, your employer will solely reimburse your tuition if you are taking classes that are directly applicable to the business wishes. And afterwards, you typically will enjoy to agree to stay on the bus near the company for a specified amount of time to take home up for the expense of the background. They stipulation their ROI.
I would say-so that in that is no harm/no foul surrounded by asking your boss going on for tuition reimbursement. If you own an HR representative, you might want to ask them. Approach your boss approaching this:
"I be thinking more or less taking some classes and be wondering what our tuition reimbursement policy is." If he asks what class of classes, report him business or something.
Edit: Thumbs down? The policy that I described is exactly the type of tuition policies that every employer I own have have as resourcefully as most family that I hold talk to. Of course nearby are other exceptions to this. Some other company could do anything that they want.
I suggest that the asker approach her boss this road is because if she say that she is taking a class to be precise not related to her charge could indicate that she doesn't similar to her post and seeking different skills to make tracks for another work. I wouldn't want this asker to lose her mission because of simply expressing some personal interests.
Your employer may hold restrictions on what type of classes they will reimburse for. Where I work, they will individual reimburse for classes that pertain to your opportunity, or classes that will assist you move up in the company. They also will solely reimburse for a unshakable percentage base on your final level. A=90%, B=80%, etc.
Tuition reimbursement is determined by the company, it usually manner that the classes you pocket are a direct facilitate contained by your opportunity and your duties. In this instance I outstandingly doubt if it will be approved, no in attendance are no permissible standards for which they must or not be approved. Just a write down have done this to capture my BSBA the first $5,245 are not tax, after that your reimbursement is tax as if it where on earth a bonus ie the 36% rate, and most states export tax the entire amount , so you still pause up next to out of pocket expenses or approaching me student loans.
You should approach your boss and merely ask what the tuition reimbursement policy is at your company. I don't deliberate near are any law to it, especially if it's a private company. At my chore, it must be related to the profession surrounded by demand for them to reimburse. So if your post is not related to storybook writing, you may not hold a virtuous argument to present your boss.
Tuition reimbursementt is an member of staff benefit, not something mandate by directive. The employer can reimburse for doesn`t matter what he/she decide, and is not obligated to reimburse one character a short time ago because someone else be reimbursed.
You can ask. If they articulate no, consequently it's no. It would be pretty unusual for an employer to reimburse you for something not job-related.
There are IRS rules on whether or not the reimbursement is import tax deductible to the employer.
This is my fourth year in college and even I still hold question. So dont verbs your not alone. I would first do some research on your companys policies on tuition/college . You should also research your college of choice. Even as a non level seeking student you must own a acknowledgment epistle. Before you approach your boss just about it, you should be powerfully informed nearly adjectives your companies policies and so forth. Bring in your implementation letter/ and course description when you turn into to settle to your boss. Also ask yourself is this course relevant or going to facilitate you near your commission? You can create an arguement roughly it to your boss, nearly how this will facilitate you at work, etc. I presume it if it help you increase your productivity at work that in attendance should be no problem near getting your work to reimburse you. But afterwards again adjectives companies are not created equal. Research, research, research, thats what college is adjectives almost. :)
