Answers: A domain name is your website address.
Lots of amateur websites on the internet are done through freewebs or other free hosters. They afford you a section of there website, so you domain heading is www.freewebs.com/whatever-you-call-your-...
This is a domain name but it is not owned by you and is shared.
Some people aren't joyous with this and decide to repay for their own domain name i.e.
www.whatever-you-call-your-website.com(o... .co.uk)
This is what you have done. You own bought a domain name, depending on how much you paid, this any lasts forever, or for about 5 to ten years past you need top renew it.
IMPORTANT: Unless this is a special private company i seriously doubt that you need to renew it every year, and it unquestionably won't cost you lb115 and if it does, it shouldn't!
Yes you can register it again by yourself, search in google for hosting websites, or try 1and1.co.uk they're honest.
Even if this 'guy' is talking about devoted hosting it still wouldn't come to that much. Do your research, then ring him back and ask him to break down or explain how he come to lb115, then if he says that's a moment ago the charge then tell him to stuff himself, and move to a different hosting site.
Also if your unsure freewebs is really thoughtful and actually offers a premium service that give you your own domain. So check that. Good luck.
p.s. Don't worry you wont get surrounded by trouble, all he provides is a buisness, and if you don't like it after switch, there's LOTS of better competition, btw if you were mislead about what you could do consequently should be able to claim your money back.
You can't go and get in trouble, its your money.
the domain name is the address for your site...
similar to the domain name for yahoo is yahoo.com
it should cost about $8 to $12 per year to register a domain.
Since you didnt register the domain consequently you probably wont be able to renew it. Since Im going to guess you dont have any access to the explanation it was bought in.
domain heading is the name of the website with extension .com .network .org .co.uk
example:
yoursite.com << this is domain name.
its cost depends on the time you register it for.
.com .net .org cost around $9 for 1 year.
and yes you can register it yourself.
oops, you are going to rate through the nose!pls go contact http://www.godaddy.com ,that's the most major domain provider all over the world, besides,it costs you no more than US$9 yearly, and usually, you could let go a lot with its promotion,i used to acquire a domain at US$6.95/per with a discount of 30% from them. The domain name is the entitle you registered. yoursite.co.uk (you get what I mean).
lb115? You are being ripped stale as registration is usually for 2, 5 or 10 years.
Are you sure he's not charging you that for hosting?
I suggest you look at someone like http://www.1and1.co.uk
Its like www.yahoo.co.uk, what your site is call in short terms. If you want to save the name re register it, but you could probably find it cheaper with a different provider. It's the pet name of the website. E.g, .co.nr, .co.uk, .com e.t.c :)
OK so you now know what a domain name is. The registration is almost lb2 for 5 years renewable at the same cost. Is this guy doing your hosting as well? If so it's going on for right. I am glad peeps are recommending 1&1 . That would be our choice. Have a look at our website roughly speaking design and promotion (no adverts or links) just commonsense gain from our experiences. Feel\ free to contact us http://www.ds32.com with any questions. If you subscribe to 1&1 through us we net a few pennies so that would be good and you can learn how to do things yourself, the right route! Typically you can get a domain register for only lb4.99 for two years for co.uk domain. you can draw from a cheaper one if the hosting having a promotion, in some overnight case, only cost lb0.99 a year. If you want to get a co.uk domain, you can try 1and1. They are relatively good.
Alternatively, if you are looking for a .com domain, it is better to get it from a US hosting companies. Current price is almost US$9.00 to $10.00 a year.
For hosting your domain, it doesn't matter of where you can host. Currently adjectives my UK .co.uk and US .com domain were hosted in US server. If you want a apt hosting company, I will recommend bluehost.com. Their offer currently is the best in the US. Good luck.
When you use the Web or convey an e-mail message, you use a domain name to do it. For example, the URL "http://www.ezinedomain.com" contains the domain name ezinedomain.com. So does the e-mail address "admin(a)ezinedomain.com."
Domain name like "ezinedomain.com" are easy for relations to remember, but they don't do laptops any good. All of the laptops use names call IP addresses to refer to one another. For example, the laptop that humans refer to as "www.ezinedomain.com" has the IP address 216.163.103.190..(for example only)..
Every time you use a domain baptize, you use the Internet's domain names servers (DNS) to translate the human-readable domain names into the laptop-readable IP address. During a daytime of browsing and e-mailing, you might access the domain names servers hundreds of times!
Domain names servers translate domain name to IP addresses. That is simple, and it would be -- except for five things:
" There are billions of IP addresses currently within use, and most laptops have a human-readable name as okay.
" There are many billions of DNS requests made every day. A single soul can easily make a hundred or more DNS requests a daytime, and there are hundreds of millions of people and laptops using the Internet each day.
" Domain names and IP addresses switch daily..
" New domain names go and get created daily..
" Millions of people do the work to regulation and add domain names and IP address every day.
The DNS system is a database, and no other database on the planet gets this several requests. No other database on the planet has millions of people varying it every day, either. That is what make the DNS system so unique!
