Copywriting a slogan?
Hello,
How do you copyright a slogan. Lets say for example Got Milk? If you want to use a slogan you came up next to to print it on things how do you copyright that so no one else can use it? Also, how do you know if a slogan is copyrighted?
Answers: Copywriting a slogan or tagline is no easy exploit.
Believe it or not, copyright does NOT protect slogans. You can trademark a slogan, but you can't copyright it.
To trademark a slogan, as you have surmised, you must determine whether or not the line you longing to trademark is available. Check out the URL I've listed below. When you log on, you will be asked to provide:
slogan:
industry you are in:
Then when you run a SEARCH, the research program will inform you if your slogan has been previously trademarked and/or contained by what industry they are in. Sometimes, you will find different companies using a similar slogan, but because they are in non-competing industries, it's not a problem.
The solely problem with the web site I am referring to, is that it is not 100% accurate. The network site even encourages the user to hire a copyright attorney to confirm their search findings.
All said, you may be better past its sell-by date contacting a copyright attorney and have them do all of this for you.
Good luck to you.
